My experience matches that. Could be coincidence that a few regulars leave around the same time but if a bunch leave I'd think something was up.
Point taken. But it is a viable option for dealing with certain milongas/situations. Nothing wrong with toughing it out if you prefer.
Take a partner with you. Then there's no need to know the secret handshake. DP and I only do milongas together. And we've occasionally told...

Ironic that a dance that "can't be put in a syllabus" and is "the most free form of dance expression " has all this crap associated with it.
