I stand corrected. from o2cm results, MAC 2011 had 1375 competitors, and 2010 nationals 1017. and according to the men's number for 2011...
it might be the largest in terms of number of competitors - even given usa dance, pro, and pro/am? OSB has lots of entries, tho.
MIT this is year is 1000+ competitors, 750+ couples, 2 days. maybe largest in the US? DCDI is a good size too.

everything in LA is within "driving distance," just whether you want 1.5-2 hr each way or not. in the east coast, that could be 3 states.
