    Music thread!

What kind of 80s music (pop or otherwise) is ballroom-danceable? I'm talking things like:

Rick Astley's Never Gonna Give You Up for Hustle
Madonna's Material Girl for Cha Cha
Cindi Lauper's True Colors for Rumba
Journey's Open Arms for Waltz (albeit a lil fast)

    etc.

    Looking for ideas here.

I think Wham!'s "Wake me up before you go-go" is a Jive.

How about some of Michael Jackson's tunes? I've done hustle to Thriller, and cha cha to The Way You Make Me Feel and Billie Jean.

I've also done both hustle and cha cha to I'm Too Sexy by Right Said Fred. ;)

One more! There is an INXS song that I cannot recall the name of but it is a V Waltz. It has a jazzy intro with a sax. and123 did a performance to it a couple of months ago. I just can't remember the name of the song...

Oh, god. Time to go through the music lists.

What are you doin', Joe? Got a special, themed night of dj-ing planned?

Do they have to be original versions of the songs?

I posted this in another thread...the U2 song (is it from the 80's??) should be danceable...

The other songs are really worth a listen, too. (Partial hijack)!

I tend to prefer "The Way You Make Me Feel" as a WCS, actually.

Are you thinking "Never Tear Us Apart"?

"Time After Time" by Cyndi Lauper is a good American Rumba
"Love Shack" by the B-52's could be a cha cha or ECS.
"Summertime" by Billy Stewart is a cha cha
"Africa" by Toto and "Walk like an Egyptian" by the Bangles are sambas
"Always" by Erasure is an American Rumba
"It's My Life" by Talk Talk is a cha cha
"Nothing Compares 2 U" by Sinead O'Connor is a slow International Rumba or a bolero
"Wouldn't it be Good" by Nik Kershaw for an American Rumba (could be a semi-fast International rumba)
"Don't Dream it's Over" by Crowded House is an International Rumba
"Sign Your Name" by Terrence Trent D'Arby is an International Rumba
"Every Time You Go Away" by Paul Young is an International Rumba
"No One is to Blame" by Howard Jones is an International Rumba
"Video Killed the Radio Star" by The Buggles is an ECS
"I'll Stand by You" by The Pretenders is a bolero/International Rumba
"Only You" by Yaz is an American Rumba
"The Power of Love" by Frankie Goes to Hollywood is a bolero
"Forever Young" by Alphaville is an International Rumba
"Strange Currencies" by REM is a Viennese Waltz
"Moments in Love" by Art of Noise is a slow International rumba, but could be fun to dance to.

...I may come back to this. I have a meeting to run to though...

I don't know what you'd dance to them but you have to work "Rock me Amadeus" and "One Night in Bangkok" into the rotation somehow

Hmm...off the top of my head...

    Rock me Amadeus - Samba
One Night in Bangkok - Cha Cha/ECS (probably more cha cha)

Queen! (I guess it's not all 80's, but still) I remember Wendy Johnson did an awesome show with music from Queen. Val and Val did a cha-cha to Another One Bites the Dust :D

I know some Sting songs are good for dancing. . . just can't think of which ones at the moment.

While on the Billy Joel track, "She's always a Woman" is also a Viennese Waltz.

Lionel Richie's "All Night Long" is a samba...

I don't think I'd like to dance to ANY of these songs. Guess I just don't like pop for ballroom and latin.
