Exactly. I'm just a gigolo, and everywhere I go People know the part I'm playing Paid for every dance, selling each romance Oh, what they're saying
nope. and if you pay him for two hours of the social, plus both your own admission ticket as well as his... the evening adds up quickly.
now THAT i would do. lol! For the record, I dont think it sounds pathetic, just kind of odd/unusual. I have never had a partner, but if I was in the mood for some great dancing, I would always go to my lesson and say, "can we just dance today?" and generally I would get a "sure!!", though at times he would break to explain something to me. But then again, I've only done two showcase dances and one competition due to money reasons, so I'm not the norm with regards to my practice sessions(though in my defense I would often have to beg for lessons on technique or to compete...not with that pro anymore btw). I will also admit to sitting out maybe 1/4 of the dances at a social due to not having a partner(1/3 of the dances on a bad night), so I can see your point. I suppose if I had the money I might pay someone to come with me. Especially since some of the teachers here dont social dance with their students and when they do you only get one dance from them because of all the women, so yeah in retrospect if I had the money I might pay my pro to come with me sometime or at least pay for an extra lesson of just dancing. I dunno...guess it would depend upon the situation. As for the cost, surely they would charge less since you werent paying for their instruction/teaching but simply their dancing? Again, I dunno...
I would never pay pro to social dance with me..A) he would never be able to stop analyzing my dancing and B) even if by some miracle he was able to, I would find it very awkward and imagine that he was anyhow...he and I have a deal that he needn't ever ask.... and he rarely does
Being a dance escort is not unusual amongst the male pros I know. Their services are taken advantage of almost exclusively by ladies of a certain age + income bracket (of course) who want a guaranteed dance partner (and a man) on their arm all night, no distractions. Usually it is their own teacher, but not always. The men who do well at this manage to be sufficiently pliant, agreeable, handsome, etc on the nights they are working as dance escorts (I can't imagine most of them trying to 'teach' during this time - they know that's not what they are being paid for.) The more agreeable they are in terms of travel willingness and the ability to pretend they are enjoying themselves, the better they'll do in terms of repeat/satisfied customers. Most of the male pros I know who offer this service make no bones privately that they hate doing it, and that it's purely for the money - even moreso than lessons. Being an escort means giving up prime weekend evening hours, and even the high hourly rate they get for doing this doesn't fully compensate for the fact that they feel like gigolos.
Actually, I do know of one person that does this. I didn't realize that he was a dance escort though until you all described it to me. Silly me lol. But he does get paid really well. But this makes me wonder, do you have to have a business license to take money like this? I would figure that you do, but maybe I'm making it more complicated than what it really is.
yes... quite true. i get analysis all the time from him, on & off the floor. one thing i like about that is that i can get feedback from him for latin that way. i don't take privates with him in latin -- we did that briefly last summer, but then i stopped.
yes, i think it can be that way. but i'm sure it can also be approached another way. when my pro is going to a social with someone, his partner also makes sure to go along with someone. they view themselves as professionals, they conduct themselves that way at all times... they are classy, and respected in the community, and so there is i think some clout to be with them. that's the vibe pros have the option to cultivate, if they esteem themselves that way...
Dance escort sure doesn't seem to be a bad busienss. Too bad I'm not good enough looking or a good enough dancer to get any work this way.
fwiw, etp, what matters is your dancing, your attitude & your graciousness. appearance or age... really truly does not matter in the least!
Poor thing, he loves you so much, and you treat him like the Wicked Witch of the West treated Dorothy
I beg your pardon...I would say that my treatment of joe has been...quite admirable...and I should think he would defend me on this
he has afterall, re-fastened my corset...and roused me from bed for two dances...not many men get those privileges
Man, I've got to get myself back East and do some comps there so I can get that kind of treatment (or any kind of treatment) from Joe!
