So many new analogies (which actually work for me!!!) from this weekend. Will have to collect my thoughts and post them.

Of course, being AT analogies, who knows how interesting/useful they'll be to most people here. *shrug*

A coach of mine, some years ago, had an analogy for lead/follow and for dancing in-the-moment (dealing with the present) -
"The man's lead is an invitation for the woman to follow - but if the woman does something else, the man just has to deal with it and dance on!"
(This has served me well, especially in social dancing!)

My favorite quote - form Ron Bennet if I remember right (but it may predate him -anyone know the source??). On leading:

"The man creates a space, the woman moves into it."

And say, "Yeah, that was what I was leading."

Second enduring lesson I learned in Country Two-Step. The first was to turn her on the quick-quick.

pro told me his standard coach likes to say "manage your rockets" when it comes to foot pressure. this one is helping me a lot right now... but every time i move from foot to foot, i'm hearing "pssssssssh.... psssssssssh... pssssssssh" in my head, like a rocket thruster going off, lol.

About women's styling in salsa dancing, my instructor likes to say:

"The legs are the chimmney and the arms are the smoke"

    ;)

Not exactly an analogy, but a new favorite saying of mine* since I took up Standard a few weeks ago:
"The man is the boss, but only with the lady's permission"

And another not-exactly-analogy... on butt-squeezing in Latin:
"You think all those pained facial expressions you see are just acting?"

I'll try to remember some actual analogies, too... :)

*"mine" as in "I like to say it now". Credit goes to my trainer

As a tall guy, I have no problem with the big steps, but sometimes you just have to bring it in and step small. Another guy told me the way he solved it was to "Quit stepping across Texas and just step across Rhode Island."

When I first started dancing my pro liked to play a "game" to get me to take better steps in the smooth dances. It was; I try to step on your toes and you try to step on mine. I never once got to step on his toes. :) But the "game" worked.

And for keeping the knees together in Latin; make it look like you have to pee. This one didn't work so well.
