    This week's management lesson:

Encourage team cohesion. But beware. If team members like each other enough to have lunch together, a large portion of them may come down with food poisoning at the same time. This will seriously impact your ability to get anything done.

(They're all mostly recovered. But that was a rough few days.)

My trainer feels I am getting stronger and building more stamina and endurance. My pro is happy with my rounds...overall, feeling good... And I am off work until Monday!

Feel like I absolutely killed my EKG exam today. Good thing, too, because if I end up working as a physiologist for a little, making mistakes could be really, really bad.

New samba routine I don't completely hate. These coaches I'm working with are amazing.

Not sure on engagement party etiquette...always thought engagement party was just a celebration and wedding was gift time, but the couple whose party we went to last night just sent BF a text saying "hey. Some of the tags on the presents got mixed up and we're starting to write thank you cards. Which was yours?"

We didn't get a present. Didn't realise that was a thing. Very informal invitation, etc.

BF wrote back "whoops! We didn't realise presents were a thing until we got there. We were planning to bring something when we see you again on Wednesday"

It's not meant to be a super huge present or anything is it??

seems to me that engagement parties are much more common now than when I was young...not sure why...regardless, they were out of line to call you...."thanks so much for attending our party and for the greatest gift of your friendship" need for them to check...IMO, parties to celebrate are fine (and if folks bring a gift, that's nice of them), but look, unless there isn't a shower, we are then talking about 3 expected gifts (?) to go to one wedding ? I think not.....Incidentally, I feel the same about having to buy each guest some ornate, the gift is the meal, the bar, and the dancing...enjoy....

I am increasingly disturbed by these trends to feel obligated to make everything an epic event....there will be no group trip to the spa for bridesmaids over here...take a shower, comb your whatever the he--- you want to your fingers and up and support my daughter....course I feel the same way about plastic surgery that isn't a neccessity....shrug...I guess it's a wide and wonderful world where everyone is free to be/choose as they wish... those simply aren't choices that I care much for...then again, I spent tens of thousands on a won't be throwing any stones any time soon

The text message was the worst of it, to be honest. I feel they could've just sent a thank you card to everyone saying "thank you for your support and the gift of your presence"...ambiguous but still grateful. The pile of gifts was not it definitely wasn't everyone who'd gotten them something.

You know, every so often there is an evil little part of me that comes out in response to tactless expectations of gifts from certain people - and I *might* have responded to them along the lines of: "Oh- we gave you that card with the $50 - gee, hope you haven't misplaced it - it was in a blue envelope." And then sit back and wish you were a fly on the wall.

Hey! This is the happy thread! (although wahtever is with this entitlement to gifts and perks and such people get? Do they invite you for you or your gift-cards, so then they can complain about how insincere gift card gifting is while they spend it or regift it themselves?)

I was going to brag about epic coffee cake and finding dollar nailsparkle. Although for totally random, I have: Fifty degrees, sunny skies... and it was sleeting out of a blue sky. Or snowing. Whatever. That was so end-of-times weird I expected frogs? I got frogs. I can hear them IN the snow, a whole chorus of them.

Received compliments on my photos in class today. They were from the intro class, so I could have gone to my usual negative route and said to myself "well they know nothing about anything yet... o how can they know what is good. I think most of my work is a pile of poo." But instead I accepted the compliments. It made my day and I can see the improvement from last semester to this one. Now to hope that my photography teacher feels the same way. gulp.

I have an appointment with a specialist next week to see about taking care of The Thing On My Cheek. It's just a cyst, nothing terribly major, but I've had it for fifteen years or so. So actually doing something about it is kind of a big deal for me. It's just a shame that I assume that this'll wind up just being a consultation and that I'll need a second appointment to actually have it taken out. Assuming that's the case, I'll probably have to wait until after Nationals for it to make sure I'm not going with the whole head-wrapped-in-bandages look on the dance floor.
