I just had a long discussion with my daughter last night, explaining the difference in the use of the word theory between scientists and non-scientists. But my pet peeve is not so much with analogy to physics, but the idea that anything can be proved by analogy. Analogy is a useful tool for explaining things, it can't be used to prove anything.

This is where physics does apply. From the perspective of quantum physics, it is an observer created universe. To observe something is to change it. For that matter, we don't have any way of disproving a purely solipsistic universe.
