I've been teaching myself how to melbourne shuffle these past few weeks, and I feel like I need some shoes that will allow me to do it more smoothly than, say, sneakers. Can anyone tell me what kind of shoe is best for shuffling? If you could also tell me what's good to look for in that kind of shoe I would appreciate it greatly.

welcome to df!!!...I don't know a bloomin' thing about shuffling but hopefully someone here will have some suggestions...seems like almost any shoe that doesn't grip on the bottom would be better than a sneaker

It looks like http://learntoshuffle . com/ (take out the spaces) has some good info. I might pop into their forums and see if they can help you out.

I just looked at some videos and I saw a lot of pivots, so yeah, regular sneakers would probably grip too much. The people in the videos were wearing sneakers but maybe they were dance sneakers. Special dance sneakers will have a smooth sole that will allow you to turn and pivot. These are made by companies such as Capezio, Bloch and Sansha.

Thank you Jennyisdancing! I've looked at a couple of their sites and found some shoes, though some information is missing and I am unclear which would be best for my purpose. If you don't know what shuffling is there is a lot of it on youtube, and as the name implies it is done entirely with the pivoting or sliding of your feet on the ground. I'm going to put up some links to the shoes that I think most fit my needs, and if you have any advice, comments, or suggestions I would greatly appreciate it : )

http://www.capeziostore.com/Frontline-Freestyle-p/fl13.htm This shoe looks ok, but they do not give any information on the sole, nor do they picture it.

http://www.blochworld.com/shop/p-201-klassik.aspx This shoe looks like it could work as well, and while it does say that there is a "spin spot" on the sole it also has ribs running perpendicular to the sides of the shoe on its entirety, which I'm guessing would make it very difficult to do the running man.

    Thanks pre-emptively!

I found another site that sells the Frontline shoe, and it has a pic of the sole:

Also here's a good site that has a lot of dance sneakers, and they have some styles on clearance:

Hey it's len here, greetings from Sydney Australia!
you can use whatever shoes you like, many Melbourne shufflers use skate shoes, also try putting some duct tape on the bottom of the shoes to help you slide better

    Keep on rockin!
