What's the most embarrassing moment you've had dancing?

Wow! Some of those are pretty bad, thanks for all the honesty btw...

I must now confess my most embarrassing moment,

I was 15 at a club competing in a hip-hop dance contest at a local club with a dance group I used to hang with at that time(we won that night btw - only $150 but we were all happy cause the routine we used we practiced for about 2-3 weeks.)

One of the moves we did would have two people in front kneel and the two people behind them would jump over them into a chinese splits(don't ask me to do that now - it's not possible anymore....).

Well that night I wore a pair of denim overalls, (very, very baggy hip hop style) that ripped you know where-- when I did the splits. Believe or not, nobody saw or knew because the fog, disco lights and strobes were still running when it happened.) I sat down the rest of the night and told everyone who asked me to dance that I pulled a hamstring muscle.

I was sooo embarrassed this weekend...I was at a weekend workshop and I accidentally ended up in a session that was WAY too advanced for me. It was also for partners only, but I ended up getting paired up with someone. After about ten minutes I could tell that it was way above my head, so I asked a follow who was sitting out if she would take my place, but she didn't want to. Anyhow, there was no one else around, so I felt like I was kind of stuck. :(
I felt so bad for the guy who had to dance with me...I wanted to just walk out, but I didn't feel right doing that, since there were no other follows. :? But on the whole it was a very tough class, and it felt like everyone was watching me. I just hope most of the people were too busy trying to learn the steps, rather than watching all my mistakes. To make it worse, the class ran about 20 minutes overtime, so just when I thought it was over, it kept going, and going, and going.
I made it to the next session (a much more basic class :D ) but I ended up having to dance with the lead from the previous class again. Luckily it was a rotational class, and he didn't have to put up with me for two classes in a row!

And you can bet it will be a looong time before I take anything but basic classes.

    LindyQuest,
I had the same experience about five months ago. I went to a weekend salsa workshop, which turned out to be way above my level. I knew I was the worst follower in the room, which felt awful. Although the class was rotational, I remember one guy in particular, an advanced dancer who probably took that class as a warmup session, who had the misfortune of dancing with me near the end of the class when we went over the whole routine. I totally sucked and felt like a sack of potatoes. I was miserable for days after that...
For a long time I wouldn't go near the man as I was too embarrassed about that day, but this story has a happy ending. I finally found the courage to dance with him recently, and not only did I manage to follow him without too much difficulty, I actually enjoyed it. It was great fun -- one of the best dances I had that weekend! It's particularly pleasing when this happens because that's when you realise how much you have improved. So don't worry, keep practising, and your time will come. :D

i somehow managed to rip the back of my pants from waist to crotch  all because i was being a smarta$$ and wanted to squat and move back up very fast while cross-dody leading the lady  .. the band singer (female) was very amused cause my back was to her and not the public thank heavens!! luckily i was wearing a longish shirt to hide the proof of my sudden 'expose'

Have ripped the seat of my pants on a number of occasions--usually when I was wearing black pants with red boxers!

For ShyDancer--people step on their own toes all the time. But the most dramatic that I've ever seen was when I was doing a theatre arts routine; I'd just done a lift, and as I set my teacher/partner down, she came down from about four feet in the air and landed with her right heel square on her left toe.

She tried for a few moments to maintain her composure, but then gave it all up to start hopping around the floor holding her foot.

Of course, everyone's looking at me like I was the one who did it--and I was sooooooo not guilty!

This past Thursday at ballroom...I was dancing with a friend/instructor. During tango...I took a wrong step and stepped on his toe. I apologized but he decided to just rub it in and began hopping/limping around. Mortified, I fled the dance floor fearing I'd really done something wrong. He came after me and said he was just playing and that I had hardly touched him at all (it was April Fool's Day). However, I was so freaked out and embarrassed that I remained off of the floor and out of my friends arms for several dances after the fact.

My great love of physical comedy always wins out over mortification--if that happens, I try my best to appear mortified and not laugh!

Although not exactly while dancing, but one of my big dance-related embarrassments happened in a dance store when I was trying on a pair of ballroom shoes and smartly decided to test how they will work during multiple spins: I almost fell flat on my face saved only by a bar that I grabed at the last moment. Needless to say it happened while a couple of sales people and a few customers watching...

Thanks for the encouragement, MacMoto!!! I've been worried about it all day, wondering how I'm going to face him if I see him again this weekend. I probably won't dance with him for a while, but I do hope my story has a happy ending too! :D

I had a pretty embarrasing one last night...during the practice session at our local Salsa club I was dancing with a lady who didn't know much Salsa and was trying to lead her through some fast motions...she stepped wrong and whirled around, giving me a hard elbow jab right in the solar plexus!

Luckily I'm pretty good at absorbing strikes from MA training...so I didn't get hurt, but I wanted to compliment her on her technique...it had some power behind it!

I went to a latin dance party which was held at a new disco place. There was a live band and the place got rather full and steamy, and a dangerous dew-slick formed on the floor. Guys were slipping bigtime and falling left & right and I was trying to do my usual quick shines & spins and THEN IT WAS MY TURN! Down I went with a BAM! Got up & continued dancing as if nothing had happened by boy was my tush sore! Us salseros have vowed to never visit that place again!
The most UTTERLY embarrassing thing that ever happened to me while dancing was the "wig incident", but I believe I have mentioned this before in a similar thread.

I wasnt going to share thsi one because it really embarrassed me
I was dancing Rumba with a guy I know from one of the dance studios I attend, and as it was the day before April fools we were tossing about suggestions for pranks we could play, Things got rather silly and we were laughing pretty hard, he tried to lead me into a natural top turn, only laughing so much I missed the lead so he tried to manouver me around anyway (I dont find it offensive if its someone I know who is just playing around, and the floor wasnt too crowded anyway) and my thigh somehow came in direct contact with his *ouch* bits
I didnt connect hard enough to hurt him, just enough to stun him

I wanted to run! I actually thought about it  but He just laughed it off

The same teacher who was lifted into the air and landed on her own foot, in the same theatre arts routine--there was a little swivel, fan kind-of step, that involved her knees, and while practicing....

Once I broke a girl's nose during a swing song. I led her in a free spin, then went down into the splits. Well, she looked down (wondering where I was) as I came up.

Accidently caught a girl in the nose, nothing broken fortunately, the first time I visited a studio.

Not too particularly embarassing, but whenever a lady's heel gets caught in my cuffed pants.

    Swinginstyle-
It's more embarrassing when YOUR OWN heel gets caught in your trousers! Happens to me often. I hate wearing stockings, so I always dance salsa in jazz pants. When I wear my jazz shoes, this never happens, so it's a safer way to dance quick salsa!!!

I elbowed a girl in the face while dancing casino/rueda. I promptly guided her off the dance floor wearing one of those uncomfortable smiles on my face as others stared. She was fine but spent the next 15 minutes nursing her wound. She graciously forgave me but i'm sure she tensed whenever she was partnered with me. Also in the same dance i've kicked a couple of people. I believe i've been given the nickname 'killer.'

    Saw this recently..

A student and teacher practicng Rumba, Teacher was explaining about arm styling and then proceeded to lead his student into a closed hip twist...not sure exactly how she managed it but I figure it had to do with bring her arm in too late, her fingers went into his belt! She of course tried to yank them out quickly and pulled him off balance. The poor girl was so red, I suppose it didnt help her any that myself and a friend were watching her and trying hard not to laugh!

I now harbor a fear of hip twists!

    Well, let's see.

Could it have been in class when I lost my balance in the middle of a spin and I had to crab-walk on my hands to keep from landing flat on my butt?

Or could it have been class when we were executing a tricky double turn and I accidentally struck my partner in the side of the head with the heel of my hand? Not hard, but enough that she could definitely feel it. I apologized, of course, and then when she came around to me again in the rotation I promised not to hit her again. Well, I did hit her again, entirely by accident. I don't understand why, but she would dance with me again after that.

Or could it have been at a Balboa workshop where my partner was to do an inside turn while I did a turn into a come-around. She apparently went a bit off course and the moment I started to come out of my turn we collided with a full body slam.

Or could it have been in my very first dance classes, intermediate Salsa (yes, I started out from scratch as an absolute beginner with intermediate Salsa). The instructor had us do this move that involved us ducking under the girl's arm to get to her outside for whatever was next. My partner was a very muscular karateka (and she was also hard to lead, even for the instructor) with large breasts. When I tried the move, I was struck in the head by a very soft blunt object. Even my wife, who had witnessed the entire thing, was laughing hysterically.

Yeah, that last one had to have been the most embaressing moment for me.
