Do you have a favorite tango: overall or by orquestra?

Favorite Miguel Calo. His orchestra is neglected like many others, e.g. Laurenz. One tanda would be enough.

Holland America does not have ballroom dancing

Disney owns ABC-TV and Disney Cruise Line. They have placed DWTS pros on some cruises to teach.

Holland America does not have ballroom dancing

I suggest you look at cruises where dance companies bring teachers on board followed by general dancing.

Holland America does not have ballroom dancing

I was a dance host on Holland America a long time ago. The placement company went out of business and it seems HA didn't look for a replacement company. AFAIK, there's only ONE company that places dance hosts on cruise ships.

How do you answer this question?

That's very insulting! Do you really mean it??

How do you answer this question?

I didn't know we have the same orthopedic surgeon. LOL

How do you answer this question?

This happens rarely to me but when it does, I say "Our dancing styles are incompatible." If that doesn't work, I say "I have arthritis and my orthopedic surgeon said not to dance with women who push on my arm stressing my shoulder." I don't care if the woman says she isn't pushing. If my...

How do you answer this question?

This entire thread was over the woman's aggressive communication in wanting to know why the OP didn't ask her to dance. (At least I think it was aggressive.) Why is aggressive communication allowed? It's possible Mladenac and I don't have the same definition of aggressive communication. IMHO...

    Aesthetics, Technique and Connection

Very well written article. However, everybody doesn't want the same thing from tango. Some are afraid of close embrace and connection. Others use a milonga to fulfill their dream of being a show dancer, at least based on what they lead. I agree that doing NOTHING but doing it WELL can be rewarding.

How do you answer this question?

You have two ways of looking at the situation. 1) Social: Nobody owes anybody a tanda 2) Business: You want to keep the customers happy so they return. However, in this situation, this woman's nasty attitude permeates the milonga like cigarette smoke. I wouldn't dance with her if I was an...

What do you expect from the men you dance with?

What happened to my answer? The above message isn't mine but a quote. I guess I have to respond again. Why is the poster wedged (or welded) into the woman's armpit? The armpit is the WORST place for a dancer. Shoulders have to be able to rotate. If the shoulders can't rotate, the hips can't...

What do you expect from the men you dance with?

Thank you for the clarification. I thought we were in disagreement until your last message. If a follower has difficulty with an ocho, I know she will have difficulty with a a boleo.

What do you expect from the men you dance with?

I wrote on the assumption the woman can do boleos. If she can't, the man shouldn't lead them. My teacher said there's a reason a tanda is danced in AT and not ballroom, Latin, Swing, and hustle. The first dance is for the man to figure out if he can lead the woman and for the woman to figure...

What do you expect from the men you dance with?

There's nothing wrong with leading high boleos as long as the man ensures there's enough space. A lot of men don't even pay attention to see if there's enough room for low boleos. Women shouldn't avoid men who lead boleos. They should avoid men who don't check there's enough space for them. I...
